Through The 70's & 80's was by far the best of our economic times, jobs were easy to come by everything was cheaper groceries, gas, clothes, everyday things were easier to get.
Well when we started into the 90's people started taking out a second mortgage on their homes prices started to rise then fall, everything was fluctuating, then in 1998 foreclosures started, that was the beginning of greed among the CEO's and the mortgage companies.
Businesses were still going well and some were even expanding, although the everyday worker was having a hard time at getting a decent wage, while the CEO's of a company would make a million dollars or more a year, the worker whom worked for this company was lucky to see $7.00 an hour, and that is at this time now in 2009.
These CEO's of the banks we use everyday, most of us, some have taken their money out of these banks, every CEO from these banks were in congress to answer to the head of the Treasury Dept. to give their statements on how they intend to use a bailout on their changes, and how long it will take to pay back the taxpayers their money back, that's it.
No prison time even though they committed fraud, not one of them was fired and yet I know a woman who went to state jail because she did not report her job while getting food stamps she was charged with fraud and convicted, she did it for survival, her hourly pay was $5.00 she was divorced with two little girls to raise by herself.
I do not believe what I see in congress, the FDA challenged the peanut owner, the one who passes the food by saying it is alright to eat the peanut products, he was asked to eat from the same batch of products he passed to the consumers, again no prison time, nine people died hundreds more very sick, where is the justice on that case also this person files for bankrupt, now he will not even be able or even be asked to pay for damages to these families.
Greed has made so many people forget about other people and their welfare, or how that person may be doing twenty years from now, all of this for that almighty dollar, they all became so selfish in this world of progress the last two years have been a nightmare for so many everyday workers, the everyday joe and the everyday jane.
How can we get people to wake up and start caring about each other again? When will the greed stop? Through all of our trials we will stay strong , I have confidence in president Obama it will take a little while to clean up all the mess that the economy is in but I have faith that the day will come when new people take over and make our world better.
It is so important now more than ever to guide the children in the right direction, one of morals, values, sharing, get rid of the greed, have compassion. I believe my grandson will be a positive part of the times ahead, therefore I keep my faith in this country and learn to survive in an economic breakdown that I pray our world never has to see again.
